Helen Hansen

June 21st, 1920April 28th, 2023

Helen Hansen of Boulder, Colorado died peacefully at her home after suffering an unfortunate fall last November. She was able to remain at home thanks to Hospice of Boulder, and round-the-clock care provided by her daughters Elaine Rance, Doris Hansen-Craig, Janice Trevarton, Sheryl Jamison, Michelle Burgess, Sandra Flansburg, son Verle Hansen and wife Cheryl Staats, and nieces Carrie Andreshak and Jayna Manlove, and by her loving companion Bill Chronic aided by his daughter Barb Berger. Helen was preceded in death by her daughter Arlene Hansen and her husband Vernie Hansen.

Born in Iowa to Belle and Ted Torreson, Helen moved to Boulder in 1947 with her husband Vernie Hansen. She enjoyed and loved every one of her extensive circle of family and friends. Her vast family includes 8 children, 21 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 24 great-great-grandchildren: 90 people and still growing. Her circle of friends included members of a card club that lasted for 63 years, her friends at Rebekah lodge where during five decades she served twice as Noble Grand, and fellow quilters in the Peacemakers at Trinity Lutheran Church, helping make hundreds of quilts that were donated to victims of natural disasters. Late in life came Bill, our second “Pop,” who gave Mom the happiest last decade anyone could envision.

Services will be held Friday, May 5 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2200 Broadway Street, Boulder, CO with viewing at 12:30 p.m., memorial service at 1:30, and reception following in Fellowship Hall. If not able to attend in person, the memorial service can be viewed live at 1:30 p.m. MDT via www.TrinityBoulder.org/Live. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday May 6 at Mountain View Cemetery. Helen requested that, rather than sending flowers, people make donations in her memory to a worthy organization of their choice.
