In Memory Of:

JoAn (VanWye) (Stroud) Burton

JoAn Bell VanWye was born in Enid Oklahoma on July 17th, 1930, and died peacefully at the Good Samaritan Society in Loveland, Colorado on March 3rd, 2023. She was the youngest of two children born to Dick and Hazel VanWye. She loved her older brother Boyd dearly and remained close to him, his wife Martha and their children, Beverly, Dick, Sue, and Bob for her entire life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Boyd, Martha, and Sue.

JoAn grew up in Helena, Oklahoma and attended Helena High School from which she graduated. She went to college at Phillips University in Enid Oklahoma, where she studied music and received her teaching degree. She received a Secretarial Degree in Alva, Oklahoma. By now she was proficient playing the piano, violin, cello and clarinet. She continued learning to play other instruments as well, the bass clarinet, organ, and flute. For several years she worked as a grade school and music teacher in the Helena, Alva, and Jet Oklahoma areas.

On May 10th, 1954, she married Clyde Stroud (deceased). They moved to Wichita, Kansas where she lived and worked for several years at Boeing Company. Their children are Kay Norris (Don), Steve Stroud (Joanne) and Cathy Hamand (Jim). In June of 1966, they moved their family to Boulder, Colorado where JoAn went to work at University of Colorado in Boulder. She retired as a purchasing agent from CU after approximately 30 years.

JoAn married Dwayne Burton (deceased) on December 13th, 1980, and they lived in Boulder and Lafayette Colorado. From this union JoAn gained 2 daughters, Joni Norris (Ken), Sharla Nelson (deceased) (Jerry), 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren. She loved them all as her own.

JoAn was a Christian and an active church member all of her life and was a member of Faith Point Church in Longmont Colorado at the time of her death.

She is survived by three children, 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

For the last 3½ years of her life, JoAn was happy to call Apple Leaf her home. She was well loved and cared for by the attentive owner and staff. Her family is deeply appreciative for the precious job they did in caring for her.

JoAn was compassionate, and humble and she strived to help people in any way she could. She was proud of her accomplishments as a musician and businesswoman. Her kindness and generosity will always be remembered and outlive her for years to come. We dearly loved her and now have one more reason to look forward to heaven.

Thank You Lord for JoAn.
