Mina L Herman

Mina L Herman, 90, from Louisville, Co passed away on November 7th, 2022. She was born on May 20th , 1932, in Bronx, NY to Belle Leibowitz and Nathan Leibowitz. Mina graduated from Brooklyn College in June 1953 with a bachelor’s degree in Education. Mina married Hilton R Herman on March 29th, 1953. She went on to work in several Elementary Schools in Brooklyn, taking a few years off during her children’s early years. Mina lived most of her life in Brooklyn, NY. Originally living over the family bakery in the Brighton Beach area, and later living in the Flatbush and Sheepshead Bay areas of Brooklyn. In 2012, Mina moved to the Balfour Senior Living in Louisville, CO, where she lived until her passing. Mina was active in several organizations including the UFT teachers’ union, the Brooklyn College Alumni Association, and the National Council of Jewish Women. When she moved to Colorado, she was elected the president of the residents council and served in that role for several years. The Balfour residents were grateful for her service as she was passionate in this role. Mina’s hobbies and interests were mostly focused on her family. She was a beloved grandmother and great grandmother. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the “Apples of her eyes” and she adored each and every one of them, and they loved her back. In addition to her family, Mina was an excellent cook and loved experimenting in the kitchen while also loving to keep family food traditions alive. Mina was also an avid reader. Mina is survived by her children, Susan Herman and spouse Phil Mendelowitz of Walnut Creek, CA, Bruce Herman of Chelmsford, MA, Murray Herman and spouse Rondi Herman of Westminster, CO. Also, her grandchildren, Rena Wright and spouse Brandon Wright of San Jose, CA, Nathan Mendelowitz and spouse Brittany Mendelowitz of Sacramento, CA, Brian Herman of South River, NJ, Hayley Herman of Jamaica Plain, MA, Sydney Clevenger and spouse Troy Clevenger of Fort Colins, CO. Also, her great grandchildren, Benjamin Wright of San Jose, CA, Bradley Wright of San Jose, CA, Bryce Wright of San Jose, CA, and Bernice (Bunny) Leibowitz, her sister-in-law of New Milford, NJ. Mina was preceded in death by her father Nathan Leibowitz of Brooklyn, NY, her mother Belle Leibowitz of Brooklyn, NY, her husband Hilton Herman of Brooklyn, NY and her brother Herbert Leibowitz of New Milford, NJ.
