Van Michael Whisman

Van Michael Whisman passed away November 2, 2020 at the age of 75 in Westminster, Colorado.

Van was born in Greeley, Colorado on November 19, 1944. He moved to Westminster as a young boy attending Westminster Elementary School, Hodgkin's Junior High and Westminster High School. Van was active in high school sports, playing tennis and running track. He was chosen to head the local DeMolay chapter and elected Westminster High School's Senior Class President, and served in a leadership role of the High School's  Reunion Committee over the past 50 years.
After graduating from high school in 1962, Van entered the U.S. Army serving in Alaska as a dental technician. Upon his return to Colorado, Van entered Metro State University, earning a degree in Sociology and a Masters in Communications. Van joined the Colorado State Corrections Office as a Parole Agent retiring after more than 25 years.
Van married his high school sweetheart, Laura Metzler after retiring. They enjoyed traveling the country and attended numerous sporting events. Van was an avid golfer and  an enthusiastic Denver Broncos and  C.S.U. Rams football fan. When not watching sports or playing golf, Van loved spending time with his grandchildren and his lifetime, high school buddies, a keystone in his life.
Preceding Van in death are his parents, Tamar Meikle Whisman and Glenn Whisman of Westminster; Van's sister, Glenna and her husband Joe Cribari of Fort Collins; and Van's first wife, Roberta, "Cricket' Weightman.
Van is survived by his wife Laura Cummins, his son Chad Whisman, his granddaughter Jshanee, grandson Chadwik, great grandson Mason and cousin Roger West of Westminster; his sister-in-law Jane and her husband Robert Schnabel of Arvada;  Van's niece, Kim Cribari Willis and her husband Ed of Fort Collins; and his nephew, Dr. Chris Cribari and his wife Kim of Windsor, Colorado and their families.
In lieu of flowers, please make a tribute donation to the Alzheimer's Association ( in the memory of Van Michael Whisman.      
A celebration of Van's life is planned for this summer.
