Samuel L. McDonald

     Samuel L. McDonald was born on Wednesday, December 2nd, 1931 in Clay County, Alabama to Ida (Yates) and Bunyan Willis McDonald. He passed away on Saturday, November 14th, 2020 in Louisville, CO at the age of 88.

     Samuel was one of six children. He left high school to join the Army and served as an Airman First Class. During his time in the military, he married the love of his life, Marilane Pearl Matthews. They were wed on August 31st, 1953 and together they raised three children. Samuel was honorably discharged in 1955. After his time in the service, Samuel worked as a sheet metal apprentice for four years After his apprenticeship, he worked as a journeyman and eventually became shop foreman. Samuel and Marilane lived by Lowry Air Force base until moving to 53rd and Federal. After their second child was born, the family moved to Broomfield. In the 1960’s the family moved to Arvada, before settling again in Broomfield during the 1990’s, where they have remained since. Samuel enjoyed working with his hands. He spent much of his time after retirement fishing, woodworking, and gardening. He especially loved tending to his rose bushes. Samuel loved to make toys and other items for his grandkids. More than anything else, Samuel loved his family. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.

     Samuel is preceded in death by his parents, Ida and Bunyan, his daughter Jacque Sarns-McDonald of Arvada, CO, his sister Irene Shopshire of Alabama, brother Jimmy McDonald of Tennesee, brother Clowen McDonald of Tennessee and his sister Glenn Holmes of Alabama. Samuel is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Marilane, his sister Sarah McCullars of Talladega, AL, his son William (Deanna) McDonald of Brighton, CO, his daughter Lori (Mark) Hayne of Boulder, CO, his granddaughter Julie (Austin) Kopf of Broomfield, CO, and his grandson Sam Hayne of Boulder, CO.

Uncle Mac lived far away from us all his life. Our memories are wonderful of the times we were able to get together at Granddad McDonald’s farm in Talladega. Thanks so much for being there when we needed you. Love!
