Mary Lane Middlekauff

October 21st, 1970September 30th, 2020

Mary Lane Middlekauff 49, passed away September 30, 2020, in Lafayette, CO. Mary was born October 21, 1970 in Oak Park, IL to James and Susan Lane.  Mary grew up in River Forest, IL with her three older siblings; James Lane- Chicago, IL, Julie Lane Page- Ninilchick, AK, and Kathleen “Kat” Lane- Firestone, CO. In 1984, Susan and her daughters moved to Lafayette, CO where Mary first attended Centaurus High School, then later Fairview High School.

Mary was young at heart and loved sharing her many talents so it was perfect that starting in high school she began working at Rainbow Preschool where she remained a favorite teacher. She delighted in art projects and the creation of the yearly holiday program, which always included elaborate costumes, props and plenty of glitter. Lots of glitter. Mary went on to work in the restaurant industry but remained attached to Rainbow sharing her artistic creativity for years. Crocs and Rock Bottom Brewery were a couple of restaurants where Mary continued to build and foster relationships that she coveted throughout her life.

Mary was happiest surrounded by friends, laughing and being spontaneous. That’s how she met her best friend and husband David Middlekauff whom she married in 2004. They shared a passion for live music, movies and building an awesome record collection. One of many sparks in their relationship was being able to recite movie quotes, “We’ve got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark and we’re wearing sunglasses.” But nothing will compare to the love she had for her two children, Luke Cassius, 16, and Wendy Jane, 13. Both children share Mary’s warm-heartedness, wild creativity and contagious sense of humor.

Mary is survived by her mother Susan Bauer, step mother Patricia Lane, her loving husband of sixteen years David, their two children, Luke and Wendy, who are amazing and are culinary, musically and creatively talented. Nieces and nephews, Susie Lane, Kate Hebert Tow, Jessica Lane Anderson, James Joseph Lane and Collin VonderHaar. She is preceded in death by her father James “Jim” Lane as well as her step father, Vernon Bauer.

Mary was an Irish girl through and through. She was a lover of holidays, especially St. Patrick's Day and Halloween. Truly, no one celebrated like Mary. She WAS the glitter in the room! You could find Mary creating art with children, enjoying a concert, waiting in line for a coveted record, at a dog park with her dog Daisy, or sharing a toast with John Nallen at Nallen’s Irish Pub. We will always love and miss you. Somewhere over the rainbow we will see you again.

In lieu of flowers a fund me page has been created for Luke and Wendy Middlekauff.
