Caecillia McNeill

January 8th, 1926May 16th, 2019

Caecilia McNeill (nee Winkler) was born in Vienna Austria on January 8, 1926 and lived there until she was a young woman.  During WWII, her apartment was bombed and she had to move to live with her relatives.  Caecilia knew some English and, after the war, was employed by U.S. Counterintelligence to aid in the interrogation of prisoners. There she met Michael Cinquanto, a U. S. soldier.

They fell in love and, in 1947, Caecilia came to America and married Michael. Sadly, in 1968, Michael had a heart attack and died. The following year, Caecilia met Bill McNeill and his children, Betsy, 18, Charles, 11, and Maggie, 7. Soon after, Bill’s widowed mother came to live with them and care for the children. When Bill and Caecilia married, she developed a close and loving relationship with her mother-in-law and took care of her for the rest of her life. Bill and Caecilia married in 1970 and have been very happy together since that time.

In 1975 the family moved to Colorado where Caecilia, who was an excellent cook, often hosted dinner parties for their many friends. She had joined a gourmet cooking club and a book club, and remained active in both until a few years before her death. In November of 2017, she was diagnosed with lymphoma and continued to receive treatment until her passing on May 16, 2019.  She was dearly loved and will be missed by her family and many friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Boulder Humane Society.
