Martha S. Freeman

June 30th, 1942July 9th, 2018

Martha Seymour Freeman, age 76, a local resident of Broomfield, CO, passed away on July 9, 2018.

Martha was born in Bessemer, AL on June 30, 1942. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Birmingham Southern University, a Master’s Degree in Spanish from the University of Alabama and a second Master’s Degree in Specialized Reading from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

Martha was a lifelong educator and taught Spanish in the Boulder Valley School District for over 30 years.  She was also actively involved in the Eastern Orthodox Church community, serving as the choir director at St. Luke Orthodox Christian Church for many years. Martha and her husband, John, spent 38 years together as best friends, life partners, traveling companions, parents and were truly kindred spirits.

Martha touched anyone who was fortunate enough to meet her.  She had an infectious smile, an inner light that shone on anyone she was around and a style that was all her own.  She loved being a teacher and it showed in how many of her “kids” kept in contact with her over the years. Martha was also a distinguished pianist and had a love for all music from Mozart to Jazz to Earth, Wind & Fire. Her favorite places to be were outdoors and she could never get enough of the feel of the sun on her face or being near the ocean. Martha loved to travel anywhere; traveling around with her husband in their RV or internationally to Europe, Central and South America.  Above all, Martha’s passion was always for her family; her devotion, warmth, endurance, strength, patience, laughter and unconditional love knew no bounds. She made our world go round.

Martha is survived by her husband, John Freeman; her daughter, Noelle Chirichigno; her daughter, Sunni Herbruck and her husband, Matt; her stepdaughter, Treva Freeman; her stepdaughter, Kimberly Freeman; her stepson, John Freeman; her grandson, Aidan Culkin; her granddaughter, Maya Herbruck; her nephew, John Seymour; her niece, Angel Seymour; and other family and friends.

Martha is preceded in death by her parents, John Aubie and Gladys Seymour; her brother, John Seymour. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado (https://www.alz.org/co/donate).

May this poem of encouragement ease the sadness that you are experiencing. The Gift of Life Life is a gift from God. Our children, family, friends, neighbors, and strangers are all gifts to be savored. Although some days may be full of hardship and sadness, each breath, heartbeat, and thought illustrates the beautiful gift of life.
