Rita Marie Ferrera

Longtime Louisville resident Rita Marie Ferrera, died peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at her home in Louisville. She was 93.

She was the only child of Christine (DiGiacomo) and Joseph M. Rizzi and was born on May 21, 1924 on the family farm outside Louisville in Boulder County.

Rita grew up in Louisville where she attended St. Louis Catholic Elementary School, she graduated from Louisville High School in 1942. She went on to attend Barnes Business School in Denver. She worked for Hendrie & Boldhoff in Boulder as a bookkeeper. She also sold Avon, was a Cub Scout Den Mother for Pack 69, volunteered as a teacher’s aide at the Louisville Elementary School and in the St. Louis parish office. She was very active member of the St. Louis Church.

On August 25, 1946, Rita was united in marriage to Dominic Vincent Ferrera at St. Louis Catholic Church in Louisville.

She was a member of the St. Louis Altar and Rosary Society, Serra Club of Boulder, Society of American-Italians in Louisville, and the Buffalo Belles. She enjoyed crocheting, the 9 AM coffee group, CU football, traveling with Dominic, but especially spending time with her family, grandkids and great-grandchildren.

Preceding Rita in death were her parents, her husband Dominic, grandson John Michael Ferrera, and granddaughter-in-law Amanda Ferrera.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons Kenny P Ferrera and his wife Carol of Louisville, Denny W. Ferrera and his wife Janet of Louisville, Dave A. Ferrera and his wife Mary Carol of Arvada, and Vince R. Ferrera and his wife Mona of Louisville. Thirteen grandchildren Gary Ferrera, Julie Hewitt and her husband Steve, Alissa Tatro and her husband Ryan, Nathaniel Ferrera, Janson Ferrera and his wife Amy, Kaylyn Klecan and her husband Kurtis, Robert Ferrera and his wife Jodie, Joe Ferrera and his wife Raelynn, Cassie Ferrera, Nicholas Ferrera and his wife Jeana, Jonathan Ferrera, Jessica Stannard and her husband Lyall, and Anthony Ferrera and his fiancée Danielle MacDonald. She is also survived by 26 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Monday, May 14, at Darrell Howe Mortuary, 1701 W. South Boulder Rd. in Lafayette from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with the rosary being said at 7:00 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, May 15, at 10:00 AM at the St. Louis Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memorial Park, Boulder. A reception will be at the Tri-City Elks Club in Louisville.

The family suggests memorials to either the St. Louis Catholic Church or to the St. Louis Catholic School in Rita’s name.


Visitation will be held Monday May 14, 2018 at Darrell Howe Mortuary 1701 W South Boulder Road Lafayette, CO from 5:00-7:00 PM.  

The Rosary will immediately follow the Visitation at 7:00 PM at Darrell Howe Mortuary.

A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Saint Louis Catholic Church 902 Grant Avenue, Louisville, CO.  

Inturnment will immediately follow at Mountain View Memorial Park 3016 Kalmia Avenue, Boulder CO.
