Andrea Lee Casillas

June 8th, 1971December 2nd, 2017

Andrea Lee Casillas, of Broomfield, died unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, December 2, 2017. She was 46 years old.

She was born on June 8, 1971 in Boulder, the daughter of Harold L. Casillas and Joan (Szydlo) Olivas. After growing up in Boulder, she attended and graduated from Centaurus High School in 1989. She attended The University of Colorado for a semester. Following her time at CU, she went to work at Rocky Flats in 1991.

She met Bill Hergemueller in Lafayette, and together they had a daughter Amanda, born on April 16, 1990, just seven minutes before midnight. It was the same month and day of Bill’s birthday.

Andrea continued to work at Rocky Flats until 2005, working specifically in property management. In 2006 she went back to school attending Colorado Christian University earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Science. After earning her degree, she continued her work in property management for Ball Aerospace, where she has worked the past 11 years.

Andrea was extremely loyal to her Denver Broncos and more importantly was Terrell Davis’ biggest fan, attending his Hall of Fame induction in Canton in August 2017 and meeting him personally in Denver last month. When she wasn’t busy cheering on the Broncos or the Buffs, Andrea was serving her community, volunteering to feed the homeless. She was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post # 9665 in Broomfield, a proud blood donor every 58 day to the Bonfils Blood Center that helped countless NICU and cancer patients. She was an advocate for The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, and was well known for cooking award winning green chili at annual cookoffs held by Ball.

Andrea is preceded in death by her father, Harold, her paternal grandparents Ernest and Adeline Marie Casillas, and maternal grandparents Steve and Stella Szydlo.

Surviving family members are her mother, Joan Olivas (Kiki); fiancée Thomas Trujillo, her daughter Amanda Hergemueller (Greg “Skip” Cobb); her sister Kathy Rodriguez (Robert), and her two beautiful grandsons Xaisyon Sweeney and Baby Vinny Cobb.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Wild Animal Sanctuary (

My deepest condolences to Amanda, the babies, Thomas, Cathy and Andrea's mom.. I am so, so sadden by this. Andrea was a great friend, a wonderful, kind hearted, beautiful, giving, loving, and outgoing person! I had the pleasure of sharing a few common interest with her. One was our love for our Denver Broncos! We've gone to several games together and other events. We've stood by them through thick and thin! Andrea loved that she got to go see her favorite player, Terrell Davis be inducted into the Hall of Fame in Ohio! She called me everyday from there to tell me what was on her agenda. I was so jealous! I wished I could've went with her, but unfortunately I couldn't make it happen. We would have so much fun at the games and any time we'd spend together. I will miss her so much! My thoughts and prayers for you all. Please let me know if there is ANYTHING I can do for any of you. Much love and respect always, Dora Torrez

We would like to extend our heartfelt sympathy to Andrea's family. Words seem inadequate to express the sorrow felt by the news of her passing. Unfortunately, we did not have the pleasure of meeting her. May there be comfort in knowing that someone so special will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. The Cobb Family Rick, Rose, Anthony, and Danny
Andrea was a very beautiful woman inside and out and would always step in to help whenever needed. She was quick to smile and make you laugh. We send our prayers to Thomas and her family during this very difficult time. She left too soon! Our sympathies, Denni Ann and Willy Smith
Our deepest sympathy to Andrea's family. I had the privilege of getting to know and work with Andrea at Ball Aerospace. It was through her passion that we became supporters of the Wild Animal Sanctuary. Her positive influence will continue to live on. Marc and Debi Desgalier
Words cannot express how sad I am to have to wait to see my lovely cousin again until heaven. Auntie, Amanda and Thomas, and Kathy, I m so sorry for your pain and grief during this time. It's hard to think how to ever be complete again, but know that she was loved and adored and so are all of you. I cherish you, each one. Rest in peace my beautiful cousin. May God grant the rest of us peace that passes understanding and His loving comfort. We will miss honey. ♡♡♡
Our dear sister Andrea was our Senior Vice President of VFW Auxiliary Post 9565. She was a tireless volunteer. She was helping with Wreaths across America for our fallen Veterans. She always gave so much and seemed so happy, especially with her grandchild, who she brought to meetings. She is so missed and our deepest love to her family. Thank you for touching our lives Andrea with your kindness and volunteerism. Diane Jameson
