Marita Hafner

October 4th, 1940October 2nd, 2017

Marita Reinitz Hafner went home to the Lord on October 2, 2017. She was born October 4,1940, and grew up with her mother Genevieve, Grandma Erickson, and big sister Marlene in Albany, Wisconsin. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in child development. She began her career as a case worker in Manitowoc, WI. She worked as a resident coordinator at the Job Corp which provided vocational education for 2000 young women in Clinton, Iowa. Later, she moved to New Hampshire to teach in a private school for emotionally disturbed children. On December 15, 1973, her family gathered in a picturesque New England church for Marita and Larry’s wedding.  Marita’s creativity was evident in the home baked wedding cake of German stolen, pumpkin bread, and nut bread. After their honeymoon, Marita and Larry settled in the family farmhouse in Louisville, CO. Later, they moved to their dream home with a beautiful view of the Rockies in Broomfield. Marita served her community for many years in the court system and later as a director for Meals on Wheels of Adams County until her retirement in 2013. She had great compassion for the elderly and others who are vulnerable. Even as a young student, she spent her summer vacation working with the elderly in a nursing home. Throughout her life, Marita participated in the Baptist faith family – following the tradition of her Grandpa Erickson (a pastor).  Over the years, Marita shared her musical gifts by singing in the church choir and playing the organ. Marita is survived by her husband Larry, sister Marlene Treadaway (husband Gayle) and other family who dearly loved her. Arrangements are in the care of Darrell Howe Mortuary, 1701 West South Boulder Road, Lafayette, CO 80026.

Although I only worked for Marita for a short time, we were a good team. Her passion for caring came through in the caring she showed all the Meals on Wheels clients.
Marita, You always had a smile and warmth that radiated from you. Your love of life and the care you lavished on others is a testament to your devotion and wish for the betterment of humanity. We will miss you so much.. Go with God to a better place and we will meet again some day. Patty Hafner
