Betty Jane (Chalfant) Farwell

February 10th, 1925October 5th, 2017

Betty J Farwell, affectionately known as “Oma,” went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, October 5, 2017. Betty was born in Burlington, Colorado on February 10, 1925. She was the sixth child of eight children (six girls and two boys) born to Jack and Minnie Chalfant and was 92 ½ at the time of her death.

Oma was the wife of Col. Lester C Farwell, also of Burlington, Colorado, who preceded her in death. Betty and Lester (Opa) moved to Boulder, Colorado, in 1974 after Lester retired from a 30-year career as an US Army aviator, a veteran of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, earning some of our nation’s highests awards: Legion of Merit medal (2x’s), Bronze Star medal, the Air Medal (3x’s), and the Army Commendation medal.  As a dedicated mother of five children and a loving military wife, Oma was no stranger to managing her family at times on her own. Occasionally, she even faced moving the family single handedly as she followed Lester from one duty station to the next, as in the move to Germany in 1959. Through her commitment and love of life, she gave her family a legacy of lasting memories wherever the family resided. Oma’s and Opa’s biggest legacy however is the family’s Christian heritage. Through her dependency and faith upon the Sovereign Lord, giving attention to regular church attendance and regular prayers for her family, she left to their five children, twelve grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren a certain and thriving Christian faith.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one son, LtC Jay E Farwell. She is survived by two sisters and one brother, four children and all her grand children and great grandchildren.

To all of the Farwells, from all of the Baldwins, I am deeply sorrowed by your Mother's passing. She was a wonderful lady and a great "away from home" Mom who showed us caring and compassion and took no guff. I am a better person for knowing the Farwells and a better son for knowing Betty. God bless all of you in your time of grieving. May all the memories of your Mother be joyful and your hearts be warmed by the life time of love she provided. Sincerely, Dinky Baldwin
Hi Mary, My thoughts and prayers will be with you this coming weekend. Sincerely, Nancy Bukowski
