Mary Alice Hester

January 30th, 1958May 18th, 2017

Mary Alice Navarro Hester, age 59, beloved sister, wife, mother and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones May 18th 2017 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was one of 9 children born to Marie Belen Navarro and Adrian Arthur Navarro in Pueblo, Colorado. She attended South High School and then the University of Colorado, Boulder.

In Boulder, Mary met her future husband, Paul Hester, while she worked at the University of Colorado. The two were married in Paul’s birthplace of Kingston, Jamaica in 1983. Shortly after the birth of their eldest, they moved back to Boulder and had their second child. They spent 34 years together building a life filled with love and adventure, which included extensive travel, raising their two children, volunteering to help people in need at home and abroad, and building their dream home.

She was a Boulder County resident for 41 years. After working for the University of Colorado, she continued her career as a dispatcher for the Boulder Police Department where she worked for 13 years. She later held several positions at Intrado Inc. in Longmont, CO and ended her career as President of the company. She dedicated her career to delivering and improving emergency and safety services, believing strongly that it was saving lives and work worth doing.

Mary was a true leader. She enjoyed her time mentoring and coaching those around her, date night with her husband, travel and spending time with her family. She was co-founder of BYOP (Bilingual Youth Outreach Program) a program aimed at increasing communication and understanding between law enforcement and minority communities while she was a dispatcher for the Boulder Police Department. She was also and active participant with the Boulder County I Have a Dream Foundation, serving as a sponsor and board member for a number of years. She was always generous with her time, resources and money for those in need.

Mary leaves behind her loving family, including her husband Paul Hester, daughter Cyrill Hester, son Pablo Hester, daughter-in-law Marissa Seuc-Hester, granddaughter Camila Seuc-Hester. She was also loved by her brother and sisters Nancy Montoya, David Navarro (deceased), Edward Navarro, Esteban Navarro, John Navarro, Fred Navarro, Sara Navarro, and Charlie Navarro.  She also leaves behind an extensive network of friends and family who will miss her dearly.

In lieu of flowers, please honor her memory by donating to the “I Have a Dream” Foundation of Boulder County for the Mary Hester College Scholarship Fund.

A celebration of Mary's life will be held on Friday, June 2, 2017, 4:00 PM, at the Boulder Jewish Community Center at Arapahoe and Cherryvale in Boulder.

So sorry for your loss. She was a remarkable and generous woman who was a role model for all of us. May your memories of happy times help you through this difficult time. Love, Jose and Alma Rosales
Mary has always been and will always be someone that comes first to mind as one of best of the best when I think of my years in Boulder as a dispatcher there. Such an amazing mentor, always smiling, caring, helping. A fond memory of her was that she always dressed to perfection, then without fail would spill something on herself, which would send her running to the water fountain with a napkin to clean it up...still attached to the radio console, answering the officers on the radio....What a loss we feel today. Sincerely, Deb Lane
I am so sorry to learn of Mary's early departure. She truly inspired and took great care of her Intrado family of employees. We are about 900 strong thanks to her great leadership in the 911 community. I am truly sorry for your loss.
Paul, Cyrill and Pablo, we are SO very sorry for your loss. A great woman - and role model taken way too soon. Much love and prayers go out to you in this time of sorrow. Doyle & Kris Thomas

We were so incredibly sad to hear this news. Emily and I are sending all of our thoughts and love to Paul and Family. Mary was a wonderful and special person and will live on in all of our memories and hearts. For almost 15 years i had the honor of working with Mary professionally however she was more than just a co-worker to all who knew her. She was a kind, funny and also a hard working soul who was able to get the most out of those who she worked with because they both respected her and felt her love of human interaction well beyond just business. I will miss her very much and will never forget all of the time spent over the years.
To the Hester and Navarro families, my deepest heartfelt condolences. Mary was a gem and always had a smile and a kind word to share. I worked with her at BPD and she is someone I will always remember. (((HUGS)))
I have known Mary since the eight grade she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Blessings to all concerned. She is flying high with the angels.

Mary did good even when no-one was watching. She was a good person all the time. She believed in me, and helped me become strong and independent. Rest in peace, sister. Our Lord and savior will comfort those left behind, until we meet again.
Paul, Cyril and Pablo I am so sorry for your loss. Mary was a good friend. I first met her in PD Records and immediately I was enveloped in her warm personality. She became my trainer in Dispatch and was an awesome role model for her work ethic and great personality. I missed her smiles when she moved on to bigger and better things but I knew she was born to rule the world! She loved her family and spoke lovingly often of them to everyone. She was a proud mom and wife. Thank you for sharing her with us. You all will be in my prayers. Linda Dinsmore
