William E. Case

William E. Case passed away peacefully at Frasier Meadows in Boulder on Friday, November 27, 2015. He was surrounded by his two sons John B. and James L. Case. He was born on December 26, 1920, near Mitchell Nebraska to John W. and Lucy Pollard Case. He joined the U. S. Army Air Force in World War II and served as a radar officer. He worked on the  Loran Navigation system at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In 1954, the family moved to Boulder, Colorado where he attended the University of Colorado. In July 1955, he began working part time in Boulder at the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) which is now the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

He received his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical  Engineering  with honors from the University of Colorado in 1957. He then began his full time career as an electrical engineer initially working on microwave standards at NBS. In 1969, he began work, developing equipment for laser and power standards for which he received several Department of Commerce awards. In 1986, he retired from full time work; however he continued to provide consulting services until 2006.

He cared deeply for the welfare of his family. He was married for sixty eight years to Lillian I. Case. He enjoyed playing bridge with friends. He enriched the lives of his two sons John B. and James L. Case developing their interests in fishing, carpentry, electronics and model railroading during their formative years. 

He is preceded in death by his wife Lillian I. Case and his parents Mr. John W. and Lucy Pollard Case.

He is survived by his son John B. and wife Marianne Case of Las Vegas Nevada, and his son James L. and wife Susan Case of Fogelsville Pennsylvania, as well as grandchildren Nicole Edmonds, Colleen Case, Danielle Case, Ian Case, and Ashley Case Kumrow and one great grandchild Svetlana Edmonds.
