Thomas Joseph Healy
July 12th, 1939 — August 15th, 2022
Thomas Joseph Healy, 83, passed away on Monday, August 15th, 2022 in Westminster, Colorado. Tom was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1939, to Edward and Esther Healy.
He attended Christian Brothers College in Memphis Tennessee, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and met Judy Metz. After his graduation, Tom and Judy were married, moved back to Illinois and started a family.
Tom began working as an engineer for The Western Electric Company, a subsidiary of AT&T. He quickly rose to become Plant Manager overseeing a factory producing telephone switching equipment. He was recognized many times for successfully improving the efficiency of factory operations. In 1974, Tom transferred to the east coast and moved with his wife and three children to New Providence, New Jersey.
Tom's career at AT&T lasted for nearly 30 years, and included working in various locations such as New York City, Holmdel, NJ, and Morristown, NJ. He continually worked to increase his knowledge, for example, attending the Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania. He received promotions to upper level management and throughout his career was involved in several large scale projects of national significance. In the early 80's, Tom was involved in the construction of the Spaceship Earth attraction at Epcot Center, Walt Disney World, in Florida.
When Tom retired from AT&T in 1990, he and Judy moved west to the Colorado Rocky Mountains, which he had loved traveling to as a child on many family vacations. They settled in Boulder County and lived in Lafayette, Colorado for 27 years.
Tom kept busy, working several years for H&R Block, preparing tax returns and moving up to management of two locations in the Boulder area, as well as continuing his education, for a degree in Bible study that allowed him to teach others the bedrock of his faith.
Tom was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lafayette, serving as a Deacon, and was a Fourth Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. With his wife, Judy, he worked the Respect Life booth at the Boulder Creek Festival for many years. He enjoyed travel, loved to take road trips, and was an avid photographer. He was also a proficient wood-worker, building many pieces of furniture for his home and family.
Tom is preceded in death by his brother, Edward Healy, Jr., and his parents Esther and Edward Healy.
Tom is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judith M (Metz) Healy; his sister, Mary (Healy) Pepsnik and spouse Walter Pepsnik, Rutledge, TN; his children, Thomas J Healy, Jr., Stateline, NV; Kathleen M (Healy) Paras and spouse James Theodore Paras, Landenberg, PA; Paul Edward Healy and spouse Jennifer (Bunting) Healy, Boulder, CO; and grandson, Zachary Thomas Healy, Boulder, CO.
