Estel Irvin "Shorty" Turner

Estel Irvin Turner, 90 of Boulder passed away July 4, 2022. He was born July 17, 1931 in Rozel, Kansas to Lynn and Helen Turner. He was the 2nd of 4 children (Maynard, Estel, Barbara and Melvin) and grew up and went to school in Kansas.
Estel married Laura Belle Stilts on July 19, 1953 and they had 3 children (Ray, Roy and Diana). They traveled for many years with Estel working on oil rigs, until 1961 when they moved to Boulder, and to their present home in 1963. Estel then went to work as an Auto Mechanic at Arnold Brothers Ford and Foothills Lincoln and Mercury. In the 70's, Estel worked for Flatirons Aggregate in Longmont, and for a while up in Parachute Colorado. Then Estel and Art owned and operated Kohn and Turner Excavating for a few years, before he worked as a small engine Mechanic and retired from A & B Rental of Boulder.
Estel always enjoyed the outdoors. He liked camping, hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. He was a loving father, husband, grandpa and friend to many. Estel was married to Laura for 67 years, before she passed away from cancer in 2020 and he was lost without her. He lived with his daughter Diana and her family for the past 2 years and was close to Roy as well.
Estel is survived by 2 of his children - Roy Turner in Longmont, and Diana & Kevin Bowar in Longmont. Three grandchildren, Jennifer Bowar & Sean, Jeramiah Bowar, and Matthew Turner; six great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, one brother (Melvin) and one sister (Barbara).
He was preceded in death by his wife Laura; son, Ray Lee Turner; his parents; and brother, Maynard.

Funeral service will be held 12 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12 at Darrell Howe Mortuary with burial to follow at Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder at 2 p.m.
