Barbara "Erin" Ann Rimer

June 8th, 1934June 16th, 2022

(Barbara) Erin Ann Rimer passed away peacefully from natural causes on June 16, 2022. She spent her final days at home surrounded and cared for by her loving family. Erin leaves behind Ron, the love of her life, and three children: Lori Hernandez, of Louisville, Colo.; Kelly Rimer-Surles (Cathy) of Durham, N.C.; and Matthew Rimer of Dearborn, Mont. Her five grandchildren were her absolute joy: Garrett (Robin) and Kate Hernandez Rimer; and Mateo, Tomás, and Miguel Rimer-Surles. She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Elizabeth.

Erin was born on June 8, 1934, at City of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles to William Joseph and Barbara Marie Gharrity. She was a spunky kid who grew to possess both brains and beauty, graduating with high marks from Fairfax High School while being voted “Best Nose.” She met Ron at a Christmas party in 1955. He was smitten by her in a red dress, and they married 10 months later. Theirs was a 66-year love affair.

They settled in Pacific Palisades, Calif., where Erin focused on her husband and children. She was a “hot dog lady” at Corpus Christi School, carpooled her children everywhere, and attended one million sporting events. She created a welcoming home for family and friends, hosting many taco-fueled poolside gatherings and legendary cocktail parties.

Erin liked numbers, and in addition to raising her family, she ran the business side of Ron’s optometry practice, served as the treasurer for Corpus Christi school, and worked as a bookkeeper. She was active in volunteer organizations including the Rotary Anns and Los Fortunas.

In 1998, she moved Ron from the golf courses of California to the golf courses of Westminster, Colo. to be closer to her grandchildren. There, she reprised her role as carpooler extraordinaire and sports booster for Lori’s kids. When Matt moved to Colorado in 2007, she welcomed his pups as her granddogs. Erin looked forward to regular visits from Kelly and her family and always kept in close touch with them. She developed a strong and special relationship with each of her grandchildren that they will cherish.

Erin was adopted by several animals in her life, most recently by her little dog, Maggie, who misses her.

In lieu of flowers, anyone so moved is welcome to donate in her name to TRU Hospice, Lafayette, Colo.,

Family and friends will celebrate Erin’s life with a Mass at 10 a.m., Friday, July 1, 2022, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Louisville, CO. She will be laid to rest at the Broomfield County Commons Cemetery, Broomfield CO.
