Allen Whitney Holmes Jr.

     Allen Whitney Holmes Jr, 92, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away unexpectedly on January the 3rd, 2022. Born in Omaha, Nebraska the 10th of October, 1929, son to Allen Holmes Sr. And Mary Wigton. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Sioux City, Iowa where Allen grew up.
     In June of 1952 he married his highschool sweetheart and moved to Boulder, Colorado to pursue a masters degree in Geology at University of Colorado.
     He worked as a petroleum geologist for over 40 years, 15 of those being overseas before returning to the states and settling down in Wilton, Connecticut. They moved back to Colorado in 2007 to live nearby their eldest daughter and grandkids.
Allen loved to travel, was an avid mountain climber, bridge player, and lover of historical non-fiction. One of his proudest accomplishments was making one of the first attempts of Devils Tower Monument. Allen was a great admirer and protector of nature. He shared his great knowledge and love of the outdoors with his family and friends.
     He is survived by his wife Patricia, with whom he would have celebrated his 70th wedding anniversary this upcoming June. He is also survived by his two daughters, Cynthia (Charles) Teschner of Boulder CO, and Mary Alison (Robert Crisafulli) Holmes of Wilton, CT. He has six surviving grandchildren; Whitney (Joseph Palermo) Teschner, Vanessa (James) Cahalin, Mary Teschner, Christopher and Gregory Norman; and Olivia Crisafulli. He was also blessed to have 5 great-grandchildren.

His family will be having a graveside service and will follow with a celebration of life later this year.
