James David Villars

James “Jim” David Villars, 76, passed away on Sunday, September 5th, 2021 in Littleton, Colorado. James was born on Wednesday, February 21st, 1945 in Anderson, Indiana to Luva (Gilliem) and Edmond C. Villars.

Jim grew up in Pendleton, Indiana and graduated from Pendleton High School in 1963.  He joined the Navy and went on active duty after graduation. He served in Norfolk, Virginia and Groton, Connecticut.

He married Kay Gingery in Virginia on September 1, 1966. Together they raised their daughter, Cathi.

When he was discharged from the Navy in October 1967, the couple moved to Colorado living in the Lafayette/Louisville area ever since. 

Jim worked for the Boulder Valley School District as a custodian for 24 years before retiring in 2001. During his years with the Boulder Valley Schools Jim worked at Louisville Middle School, Centaurus High School, and Lafayette Elementary School. He was a woodcarver for 50 years and was well known for his hand carved Santa’s. Jim was a member of the National Wood Carvers Association and the Colorado Carvers Club. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Kay Villars; his daughter, Cathi (Jim) Shea; grandchildren, Danny (Kaylin) Shea, Mike (Josie) Shea, Caity (Clay) Rhoads; great grandchildren, Braiden Shea, Logan Shea, Jackson Shea, Colton Rhoads, and Kaylee Shea; his sister Marianne Tripp; niece, Lisa Hodges; and nephew, David Chappell.

Memorial contributions can be made to Louisville Historical Museum or charity of your choice. 


A memorial service will be held for Jim on Monday, September 20th at 2pm at Darrell Howe Mortuary. Per Boulder County, every guest is required to wear a mask or facial covering while in the building. We appreciate your cooperation.
