Gene A. Colclasure
January 12th, 1937 — March 19th, 2021
Gene A. Colclasure, 84, passed away on Friday, March 19, 2021 in Longmont, Colorado. He was born on January 12, 1937 in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Gene, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at his ranch east of Longmont after a long illness.
Gene lived his whole life in Boulder after his mother and father adopted him when he was two weeks old.
His parents had a small farm on 19th street. Beautiful apple orchard, beehives, cows, chickens, Gene’s pet pig and his best friend, his dog, Sandy.
Gene attended Washington Elementary, Casey and Boulder High. He was always active in sports and lettered in track and football. He was to be offered a scholarship with CU and CSU. It was unfortunate he had gotten very sick with tick fever and was unable to pursue his dream.
After high school, Gene married Barbara Ehrlich. They had two children: Deb and Jace. He took pride in raising his children in a nice home in Table Mesa, volunteering for the Boulder Rural Fire Department and serving on the Board for the Little Britches Rodeo. He loved the outdoors, hiking into the Rocky Mountain High Lakes, fishing, camping and Jeeping with his family and friends. Hard work was never a problem, always ready to help a friend or relative or volunteer at the church. He would always do the job just for a handshake. Gene drove for Denver Boulder Truck Lines. He made so many friends for years to come with the people he worked with. Gene could build anything. If it was broken, he could fix it! You could be assured it would be done right, because “if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right”. Gene always figured out how to get the job done.
After Gene’s divorce, years later he married Diana Myers on February 2, 2002. Her sons are Don and Danny Myers. Together, they built a beautiful home east of Longmont. They traveled throughout the US, Canada, Alaska and Mexico.
Gene supported the CU Buffs since 1949. He was collector of John Deere tractors and memorabilia. Gene’s hobby over the last 30 years was his beautiful cross stitch that won many blue ribbons at the County Fair. He was always pleased when friends and strangers came to see his wonderful talent and his woodworking skills as well.
Gene was a great storyteller and never met a stranger. He loved family and friends to visit and missed that time due to COVID. We appreciated time spent with a few friends the last two months. Gene loved all dogs and most of all his dog, Remi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Walt, Oli, George, and his sister Arra Pittam.
Gene will be remembered by his wife Diana, daughter Debbie Beacham, son Jace Colclasure, step-sons Don (Joni) and Danny Myers. Grandchildren Travis (Kim) Beecham, Kelsey (Travis) Guthrie, Jacob Colclasure. Great granddaughter Allyson Beecham. Half-brothers Max (Debbie) Colclasure and Arthur Hostmeyer. Half-sister Sandra Mae Hines.
The family would like to thank TRU Hospice for the wonderful care during Gene’s illness the past two months.
