Richards Haslam Harris

May 24th, 1949March 1st, 2021

Richards H. Harris "Rich," 71, passed away at his home in Louisville on March 1, 2021, surrounded by his loving family, his wife of 39 years, Diana, his daughter, Heather, and his son, Erin Harris. Rich is also survived by his grandson Mason.  Rich was born May 24, 1949 to Raymond and Ruth Harris in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and at the age of 8 moved with his parents to upstate New York. During his childhood Rich developed an interest in fishing, hunting, camping and gardening. He became an expert in those fields with his father as his mentor. Rich moved to Denver, Colorado at the age of 25 and attended gunsmithing school, while pursuing his passion for fishing and hunting in our beautiful Rocky Mountains.

Rich was an accomplished machinist, and honed his craft at the University of Denver and then at Ball Aerospace where he worked on many satellite programs including the Hubble Space Craft.  Rich was a true lover of life both indoor and outdoor. He loved to fill his home with the warmth and companionship of his many friends and family. He was known for his spectacular garden of vegetables and flowers that he grew from tiny seeds.

Rich's favorite pastimes included camping with his family, hunting with his buddies and working in his greenhouse. He taught his son Erin at a young age how to hunt large game using a black powder rifle and how to be an accomplished fisherman. He taught his family to respect the earth and environment, how to fix things yourself and be self-reliant.  He loved all his many dogs, always a Labrador retriever.

Rich was loved and cherished by his family, his wife, son, daughter and grandson.  He will be missed forever and always, his family requests any remembrances be sent to his chosen charities, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Ducks Unlimited or Trout Unlimited.
